Chelsea Defender Tosin Adarabioyo Ruled Out Until International Break

Chelsea faces more problems as defender Tosin Adarabioyo is out with a calf injury. He cannot play until after the upcoming international break. Coach Enzo Maresca confirmed this, adding to worries for the team in their Premier League season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Maresca explained that Adarabioyo hurt his calf during training. The defender, who joined Chelsea last year, will miss several matches. The coach expects him back after the international break. This injury comes at a tough time for Chelsea, who have other defensive issues. Levi Colwill is out for the season with a serious ACL injury, which has significantly impacted the team’s defensive setup according to recent reports, and Benoit Badiashile is also injured. Maresca initially said Tosin’s injury was very minor, but now he expects him to be out for at least two weeks. This further limits Chelsea’s defensive options.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chelsea have struggled in defense this season. They are currently eighth in the Premier League, seven points behind leaders Liverpool as per the latest standings. Chelsea have allowed 11 goals in seven league games, more than Manchester City and Arsenal, who are above them. Tosin was replacing the injured Colwill and became a regular starter. His absence means Maresca will rely more on Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana. However, Fofana has only recently returned from a long injury and is regaining form. Losing another defender could disrupt Chelsea’s rotation and rest plans, especially with a busy schedule.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR CHELSEA?

Chelsea plays Benfica at Stamford Bridge this week in an important Champions League match. Benfica lost their opener, as Chelsea did, and both teams will be aiming for the first points of their season. Chelsea also have a game against Liverpool before the international break. Questions about the team’s defensive depth remain. Fans hope for Tosin’s quick recovery, and Maresca will consider changes in the squad until the defender returns.
