Brighton Seal Stunning Comeback at Stamford Bridge

Brighton & Hove Albion scored two late goals to beat Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Chelsea went ahead in the first half when Enzo Fernández scored. Danny Welbeck scored in the 77th minute to give Brighton a lifeline. In injury time, Maxim De Cuyper scored the winner, earning his team all three points. Brighton achieved only their second win of the season, while Chelsea were left stunned after a late collapse. Reports indicate that Brighton looked the more dangerous team in the opening stages of the match, scoring from their first two shots on target.

BRIGHTON’S SEASON SO FAR

Brighton had only one win in their first five league matches, leaving them in 14th position. Chelsea were aiming to move into the top four with a win, but failed to kill the game off. As of now, Chelsea currently occupies eighth place in the Premier League, just one point behind Manchester City, after they dropped out of the top four following recent results. Although Chelsea remain firmly in the title race, they missed an opportunity against an out-of-form Brighton team. Meanwhile, Brighton, who finished 8th in the Premier League last season, have picked up a morale-boosting victory in their bid to climb the table.

Brighton will look to build on this win next time out as they take on Wolves in the league, as they currently sit level on points with Chelsea and Wolves are last with one point from six matches. The Blues will be back in action during the week when they host Benfica for the Champions League before facing Everton before the international break.
