Hansi Flick blocks Eric Garcia’s move to Como

Hansi Flick has confirmed that he rejected a move from FC Barcelona defender Eric Garcia to join Serie A side Como.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The German coach reportedly prevented the Italian club from finalizing the defender’s transfer during the winter transfer window, despite Garcia’s interest in leaving.

Flick intervened, asking Garcia to remain at Camp Nou due to injuries in Barcelona’s defensive lineup and his importance to the squad. Como has proven as a great club for some players looking to have more playing time, like Real Madrid’s Nico Paz who has been the team’s standout performer this season.

WHAT HANSI FLICK SAID

Flick told reporters: “Eric had an offer from another club in winter and he wanted to go, but I told him that I need him. He did a magnificent job when he needed to play.

“Eric has shown a great attitude in this difficult situation. I am happy to have players like him.”

DID YOU KNOW?

Garcia has made only 22 appearances this season for Barcelona across all competitions, including 12 in La Liga. The 24-year-old centre-back initially joined Barcelona from Manchester City in 2021.

The Spanish defender’s current contract with Barcelona runs until 2026, and he is considered a vital part of the team under Flick due to his tactical intelligence and versatility, despite reported interest from other clubs.

WHAT NEXT FOR ERIC GARCIA?

Garcia is expected to play a crucial role in Barcelona’s campaign given the team’s defensive injury crisis, with key players such as Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen sidelined. Flick’s plans for Garcia suggest he could remain an integral part of the squad heading into the next season. While not good enough to be a regular started, Eric Garcia has stepped up when needed and continues to be a trustworthy player in Barcelona’s squad.
