Enzo Maresca has urged Jadon Sancho to shoot more after highlighting a ‘very important’ aspect of the Chelsea loanee’s game.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Sancho endured a tough time at Manchester United and was allowed to leave on loan to Chelsea last summer. Despite some initial promise, the forward has struggled for consistency under Maresca, managing only two goals and seven assists across 29 appearances in all competitions this season. His most recent goal contribution dates back to January 4, and the Chelsea manager has expressed a desire for him to improve his attacking output. Maresca also noted that Sancho is not the only player in the squad who could do better, emphasizing the need for improvement across the board.

This comes with especial urgency as Sancho tries to secure his future for next season, as there are questions as to Manchester United and Ruben Amorim can pay the player’s wages and want to have him as part of the squad.

WHAT NEXT FOR MARESCA AND SANCHO?

Sancho has yet to secure his place in Chelsea’s starting lineup and will be looking to end his 18-game goal drought. Chelsea are next in action against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League before facing Brentford later in the week. After that, Chelsea play Legia for the quarter-finals of the Conference League where they remain the top contender to win the trophy.

The player’s future remains uncertain as speculation grows over whether Chelsea will honor the buyout clause in his loan agreement, or pay a reported £5 million penalty to send him back to Manchester United at the end of the season.
