Manchester City are planning on signing a new right-back in the summer transfer window, according to reports. The team has struggled defensively, and has loaned out Walker, and had to rely on players out of position, like Matheus Nunes who prefers to play in the midfield.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Romano reports that new director Hugo Viana has been working on options on the market to bring in for the 2025/26 season, with his priority being recruiting in the full-back position and a replacement for Kevin De Bruyne who will leave the team ahead of the new campaign.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The Daily Mail, meanwhile, adds Viana has realised how much City miss the injured John Stones, who City are prepared to move to right-back long-term, and even threatened to play World Cup winner Rodri at centre-back before a U-turn that now sees him alternating with Josko Gvardiol in games at the heart of the defence.
The Mail report says as well that City have been following Benjamin Pavard’s contract discussions at Real Madrid with interest, but Paris Saint-Germain right-back Achraf Hakimi will leave the club in the summer but is believed to also be firmly on the club’s radar as a solution at right-back.
WHAT NEXT?
City plays against Crystal Palace for the Premier League on the weekend, as they sit in 6th place, but only 1 point behind 4th place Chelsea. The team is still chasing silverware in the FA Cup, where they play the semi-finals at the end of the month.
