FC Köln has signed 19-year-old defender Luc Dabrowski from VfL Bochum. The deal was finalized today. Dabrowski is expected to add depth to Köln’s defense.
WHO IS LUC DABROWSKI?
Dabrowski came through the youth ranks at VfL Bochum. He is regarded as one of the most talented center-backs in the 2006 generation and established himself in Bochum’s U19 team. He is comfortable on the ball, is good in the air, and is unlikely to be thrown off course. His father is a former Bundesliga professional.
He has played 24 matches for Bochum’s U19 team this season, scoring one goal. It is unclear yet if he will join Koln’s first team or get experience with it’s youth team for the near future.
WHY FC KÖLN HAVE SIGNED HIM
Coach Steffen Baumgart said in September 2023 that FC Köln are actively looking for young players as part of their squad planning. The goal is to ensure that these players are part of a squad with long-term potential.
Köln and Bochum are fighting to avoid relegation from the Bundesliga, and Dabrowski’s arrival is a long-term investment rather than a panic buy. The club are three points below Mainz during the mid-season break, and Dabrowski will begin life at Köln in the U23s or off the bench. However, he bolsters Baumgart’s squad in the long term.
