Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram has a muscle injury and will be watched carefully before important matches in Serie A and cup competitions. The French forward might miss the next games, which could be bad for Inter’s season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On Friday, Inter Milan said Marcus Thuram has fatigue in the adductor muscles of his left thigh after medical checks at the club’s facilities. This issue is not big but serious enough to make him a big doubt for Sunday’s big Serie A clash against Bologna. The club said they will check Thuram’s condition daily. They are also worried he might miss the Coppa Italia semi-final second leg against AC Milan next week. The injury happened just days after Thuram played the full game in Inter’s 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, a result that helped Inter reach the semi-finals for the second time in three seasons.

THURAM’S IMPACT AND INTER’S SEASON SO FAR

This season, Thuram has been very important for Inter, scoring 17 goals and providing nine assists in 44 matches across all competitions. Inter are at the top of Serie A, holding a strong lead at the top of the table with a big gap over their nearest rivals. Their next opponents, Bologna, are fifth and are fighting for a Champions League place. Inter are also competing for the treble, having qualified for the Champions League semi-finals and still in the Coppa Italia. With a busy schedule—possibly up to 11 matches in the next six weeks—the fitness of key players like Thuram is very important as Inter try to keep their momentum going.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR INTER AND THURAM?

Inter’s immediate focus will be on the away match at Bologna on Sunday, followed by the Coppa Italia semi-final second leg against AC Milan on Wednesday. Marko Arnautovic is likely to step in if Thuram is not able to play; the Austrian is in fine form, having scored four goals in his last five league matches. Thuram’s comeback date is most likely either the Serie A match against Roma on April 26 or the Champions League semi-final first leg versus Barcelona on April 30. The club will not stop watching his recovery carefully as they aim to win trophies on many fronts.
