Brazilian winger Antony shared his feelings about his former Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag. He thanked the Dutch coach for his support, both at Ajax and Manchester United. Antony’s time at United didn’t go as planned, but he remains grateful.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Antony joined Manchester United in 2022, reuniting with ten Hag after they worked together at Ajax. At United, Antony struggled to get regular playing time. However, he doesn’t hold any bitterness towards ten Hag. “Erik ten Hag is a coach I’m very grateful to,” Antony said. He explained that ten Hag helped him a lot in the Netherlands and England, despite not getting the chances he wanted. Antony appreciated ten Hag’s positive influence on his career, especially during tough times at United and Ajax.

HOW ANTONY’S CAREER SHIFTED

Antony was initially a significant signing for ten Hag, costing around $103 million. However, with United’s inconsistent performances and other talented attackers emerging, his playing time became limited. After ten Hag was sacked, new manager Ruben Amorim used Antony sparingly before letting him join Real Betis. This season, Antony played 21 Premier League matches without scoring a goal and made only one assist. United is struggling as well, sitting outside the top six with just four matches left to close a nine-point gap on Tottenham.

WHAT COMES NEXT FOR ANTONY AND UNITED?

Antony is now focused on his new journey at Real Betis, aiming to kickstart his career. Betis is in eighth place in LaLiga, five points behind Real Sociedad and three points ahead of Osasuna. They will face Getafe next, hoping for European qualification. Meanwhile, Manchester United is preparing for a vital match against Newcastle United as they aim for a Europa League spot. Both Antony and United are in crucial moments, trying to finish the season strongly and plan for the future.
