Barcelona have confirmed that goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will remain at the club for another season. The Polish international has signed a one-year contract extension, with club director Deco expressing satisfaction about his continued presence.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Sporting director Deco announced that Szczesny will be part of Barcelona’s squad for the 2025/26 season, stating, “We are happy with Szczesny. He will be with us next season for sure.”

The deal comes after a campaign in which Szczesny played an important role for the team. At 35 years old, the experienced keeper made 24 appearances so far this season, keeping 12 clean sheets and conceding only one defeat in matches he started.

His consistency and leadership have been key as Barcelona managed challenges including key injuries elsewhere in the squad.

BARCELONA’S SEASON SO FAR

Barcelona’s 2024/25 campaign has been marked by ups and downs. The team is currently fighting for a top-four finish in La Liga and remains in the hunt for silverware in European competitions.

Despite setbacks, including injuries to key figures like Robert Lewandowski, Barcelona have relied on established players like Szczesny and emerging talents such as Raphinha to keep their season on track.

Szczesny’s experience has been important in tight matches, especially as Barcelona navigates a busy fixture list and tough opposition.

WHAT NEXT FOR BARCELONA?

With Szczesny’s future secured, Barcelona can focus on finishing the current season strongly. Their next match is against Mallorca in La Liga, where they will try to get a win and move closer to the league title.

Barcelona are currently first and 7 points ahead of Real Madrid, who have one less match played. As the season draws to a close and with European fixtures on the horizon, Szczesny’s leadership in goal will be key for the club’s hopes of Champions League qualification and possible silverware.
