The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has intensified its efforts to appoint Carlo Ancelotti as head coach before the FIFA Club World Cup.
What Happened?
The CBF has accelerated efforts to appoint Carlo Ancelotti as the new Brazil head coach.
Ancelotti was back in the spotlight for the Brazil national team job after reportedly meeting with a delegation of CBF representatives at his residence in Madrid on Friday. Ancelotti was left in a limbo after his elimination from the Champions League and questions regarding his future at Madrid.
According to Globo, the contingent from CBF is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that Ancelotti joins the team this summer and he could even be a spectator in the stands during the Club World Cup in June for the Selecao’s opening fixture against Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad.
Why does Carlo Ancelotti want the Brazil job?
The experienced tactician is keen to take over the national team owing to the presence of several players he has worked with at Real Madrid, as well as highly-rated young talent like Endrick Felipe and Jonathan David in the squad. He has expressed his desire to lead a major football powerhouse, make them a competitive team, and maximise the potential of the talented players available to him.
The report suggests that Ancelotti has already begun making plans to reshape the Brazil squad. Robin Le Normand, a defender from Atletico Madrid, is reportedly in his sights to reinforce the team’s defense.
When will Ancelotti be appointed as Brazil head coach?
Ancelotti is expected to be appointed Brazil head coach in early June during the FIFA international break. However, he will not be under the management of the national team until the month ends, during the Asian World Cup 2026 qualifiers and the final three fixtures against Uruguay, Ecuador, and Germany.
It has been reported that former Everton assistant and Brazil defender Eduardo Berrizo is prepared to continue leading the team until the conclusion of the Copa America 2025. This would allow Ancelotti ample opportunity to observe the squad, establish his vision and philosophy, and introduce it to the players before taking on a more hands-on role in 2026.
