Andrés Iniesta wants to become a coach. This is the next step in his amazing football journey. He recently retired from playing and now wants to learn how to be on the sidelines.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Iniesta told El Pais, “I would like to become a coach someday. There’s still time. I’m still in the early stages. But yes, I like it!” At age 40, Iniesta finished his playing days with a final stint at Emirates Club in the UAE Pro League. He has already started his UEFA coaching courses and did an internship with his last club. This shows he wants to move quickly into football management.

Iniesta’s playing career is one of the most successful in football history. At Barcelona, he won many La Liga and Champions League titles. He was also a key part of Spain’s great era, including their 2010 World Cup win. He is following other Barcelona greats, like Xavi, who went into coaching after retiring. After leaving Europe, Iniesta spent six years playing in Japan and the UAE. He gained a lot of respect around the world.

Having started his formal coaching education, Iniesta may find his first role at Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy. He knows this place well from his youth.
