Harry Kane Finally Ends Trophy Drought with Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga Triumph
Harry Kane has finally won a major trophy. The England captain lifted the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich on Saturday. It marked his first major win in professional football after many close calls.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Kane celebrated his first big win as Bayern Munich became Bundesliga champions for the 33rd time. The celebrations happened after Bayern’s 2-0 victory against Borussia Mönchengladbach at the Allianz Arena. Kane was clearly emotional during the trophy ceremony. He smiled widely, hugged teammates, and then lifted the Meisterschale to loud cheers from the Bayern fans.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
This win ends years of disappointment for the 31-year-old striker. Kane had lost six major finals before. He lost twice with England in European Championships (2021 and 2024) and three times with Tottenham Hotspur (once in the Champions League and twice in the EFL Cup). Even his first season with Bayern Munich ended without a trophy. The team finished third in the Bundesliga and did not succeed in the Champions League or DFB Cup competitions.
The England captain has been crucial to Bayern’s success this season. He leads the Bundesliga scoring charts with 25 goals. His consistent performances have silenced critics who called him football’s biggest “nearly man.” Kane is now close to winning another personal award, with a second successive Bundesliga top scorer prize likely.
WHAT KANE SAID
“It feels amazing, to be honest,” a happy Kane told reporters after the match. “It’s taken a long time and there was a lot of hard work throughout the season. I’m just proud of the boys and proud that my family and kids are here. It’s a great feeling and I’m looking forward to enjoying the next few weeks.”
WHAT’S NEXT FOR KANE?
Kane will have the chance to score more league goals when Bayern travel to Hoffenheim for their last Bundesliga game of the season on May 17. Bayern Munich currently lead the Bundesliga table, having won the title with two games left. After the domestic season ends, Kane will lead Bayern’s attempt to win the first FIFA Club World Cup in the USA in June. It will give him another chance to add to his growing trophy collection.
With this championship, Kane becomes only the fifth Englishman to win German football’s top prize. He joins the company of Kevin Keegan, Owen Hargreaves, Omar Richards, and current Bayern teammate Eric Dier. After nearly two years at the club since his August 2023 move from Tottenham, Kane has finally achieved the silverware that motivated his transfer to Germany.
