Xabi Alonso Set to Begin Real Madrid Era at Club World Cup

Real Madrid is preparing for a new era with Xabi Alonso taking over as manager before the FIFA Club World Cup. The club is also aiming to strengthen the squad by signing Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold in time for the tournament.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Xabi Alonso will become Real Madrid’s new manager right after the La Liga season ends. He will replace Carlo Ancelotti after his departure on May 25.

Alonso is leaving Bayer Leverkusen after leading them to their first-ever Bundesliga title. He will sign a three-year deal with Madrid in early June. The club decided to appoint him earlier after a disappointing loss to Barcelona and an early Champions League exit to Arsenal.

The move ensures Alonso will lead the team at the very lucrative Club World Cup in the United States. Madrid’s first match is against Al-Hilal in Miami on June 18. The club also wants to strengthen their squad in this transfer window.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is their top target to help the team’s full-back and attack positions.

WHY THIS MATTERS FOR MADRID

The decision to bring in Alonso right away shows Madrid’s desire to start the Club World Cup with stability and fresh ideas.

There is very little time to prepare, with an international break following the DFB-Pokal final. Madrid thinks an early start is important to build momentum ahead of the next season. The club is outside the top four in the La Liga table, though they can finish third with a win on the final day.

Madrid also wants to end their campaign on a high with a successful Club World Cup. Bringing in Alexander-Arnold would give them a creative and experienced player they have lacked at times this season.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR XABI ALONSO AND REAL MADRID?

After Alonso is introduced next week, he will immediately prepare for the Club World Cup. The squad will only have a few days together before their first match, as many players will be on international duty.

That will make a quick integration of any new signings, including possibly Alexander-Arnold, critical.

Madrid is confident in signing Liverpool full-back Alexander-Arnold, though the club is also prepared to pursue other targets if their main one is not completed. Madrid will be listed among the favorites for the Club World Cup. They aim to win it all to end a turbulent season.
