Carlo Ancelotti Officially Takes Over as Brazil Head Coach

Carlo Ancelotti is now officially the coach of Brazil’s national team. After signing his contract, the famous Italian manager starts his new job. For the first time, he was seen in his new role.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Carlo Ancelotti was named head coach of Brazil after signing a contract with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). The 65-year-old Italian manager was with Diego Fernandes, who handled negotiations for the CBF. This announcement happened just days after the Brazilian Football Confederation revealed Ancelotti would replace Dorival Júnior as head coach of the five-time world champions.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Ancelotti comes to Brazil with 31 titles as a manager. The Italian has won five Champions League trophies—three with Real Madrid and two with AC Milan. He has also won leagues in England, Germany, and France. This is his first time coaching a national team but was an assistant to Arrigo Sacchi with Italy. Brazil is fourth in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying standings, with 21 points, in one of the direct qualification spots for the 2026 World Cup.

WHAT THE CBF PRESIDENT SAID

The president of the Brazilian Football Confederation, Ednaldo Rodrigues, shared his excitement: “Bringing Carlo Ancelotti to lead Brazil is more than a strategic move. It’s a statement to the world that we are determined to reclaim the top spot on the podium. He is the greatest coach in history and now leads the greatest national team on the planet. Together, we will write new glorious chapters in Brazilian football.”

POTENTIAL COACHING STAFF

Reports say Ancelotti might hire former AC Milan and Real Madrid star Kaká as his assistant coach. Kaká’s experience and knowledge could really benefit Brazil as they get ready for tough competitions ahead.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR ANCELOTTI AND BRAZIL?

Ancelotti’s contract with Brazil starts on May 26. His first test will be in June when Brazil plays Ecuador and Paraguay in World Cup qualifiers. These matches are important as Brazil works to qualify for the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Meanwhile, Xabi Alonso will take over from Ancelotti at Real Madrid.
