Francisco Conceição Set to Leave Juventus as Club Opts Against Permanent Deal
Francisco Conceição is likely to return to Porto at the end of the season. Juventus have decided not to buy the young Portuguese winger permanently.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Juventus brought Francisco Conceição on loan from Porto last August. The deal included a €30 million option to buy. However, after a mixed season, Juventus have chosen not to spend the money. Conceição played 23 Serie A games for Juventus, scoring three goals and providing two assists. He struggled for consistency and started only twice since March under coach Igor Tudor. When the team switched to a 3-4-2-1 formation, Conceição found it difficult to start games. He will return to Porto when his loan ends. However, he will stay with Juventus for the FIFA Club World Cup this summer before going back to Portugal.
PORTO’S AND JUVENTUS’ SEASON IN FOCUS
Conceição joined on loan as Porto tried to rebuild after finishing third in the Primeira Liga last season. He had a breakout campaign before moving to Italy. At Juventus, the team’s form was also unpredictable. Juventus hoped for a stronger finish in Serie A but fell to fifth. This put their Champions League hopes and future spending in doubt. Conceição did not match his performance at Porto, where he scored eight goals and eight assists. His return strengthens Porto as they aim to improve in the domestic league. Juventus need to rethink their team for the next season.
WHAT NEXT FOR CONCEIÇÃO AND JUVENTUS?
Conceição will stay with Juventus for the Club World Cup in the United States in June and July. His long-term future seems to be a return to Porto. His agent is looking for new opportunities, with Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig reportedly interested. Juventus are preparing for their final Serie A games, seeking a European spot and currently just outside the top four. Conceição’s departure will free up funds for new targets as the club plans to rebuild for next season and return to the Champions League.
