Jeremie Frimpong completes Liverpool medical ahead of £30m move

Jeremie Frimpong has passed the first part of his medical. The Dutch right-back is close to joining Liverpool. He will sign a contract until June 2030. Liverpool plans to announce his transfer soon.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Frimpong, 24, will join Liverpool after they paid his £30 million release clause to Bayer Leverkusen. This move comes after Trent Alexander-Arnold said he will leave the club when his contract ends in the summer.

Frimpong helped Leverkusen win the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal, and they reached the Europa League final. He played 47 games this season, scoring 14 goals and making 12 assists. He is now one of the best attacking defenders in Europe.

LIVERPOOL’S SITUATION

This transfer is the first big move for new head coach Arne Slot, who likes Frimpong’s ability to play in a back four or as a winger. Liverpool finished third in the Premier League, behind Manchester City and Arsenal. They will play in the Champions League next season.

With Alexander-Arnold set to leave and Conor Bradley ending the season as the starting right-back, Liverpool needs competition in that position. They also want to sign a new left-back to strengthen their defence.
