Sturm Graz Sign Axel Kayombo from FC Basel

Sturm Graz have agreed to sign 19-year-old winger Axel Kayombo from FC Basel. The transfer fee is €2 million, and Kayombo will sign a four-year contract after passing a medical exam.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Sturm Graz moved quickly to sign Axel Kayombo, who impressed during his loan spell at Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy. The young French player scored nine goals in the Swiss Challenge League, attracting attention from several European clubs.

Although he returned to Basel this summer, Kayombo is now set to join Sturm Graz. The Austrian club have already agreed on the transfer fee and contract terms. The deal will be completed once Kayombo passes his medical exam, expected to happen soon.

WHY THIS MOVE MATTERS

Sturm Graz won the Austrian Bundesliga this season, securing a spot in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers. The team has a strong attacking unit and aims to strengthen it further with Kayombo’s addition.

While Kayombo never fully broke into Basel’s first team, he showed his potential during his loan period with his speed and directness. This transfer aligns with Sturm Graz’s strategy of developing young talents and adding squad depth for a busy European and domestic schedule.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR STURM GRAZ AND KAYOMBO?

Sturm Graz are now focusing on the new Bundesliga season and the Champions League qualifiers. They finished the league ahead of Red Bull Salzburg, confirming their domestic dominance. Their next official match will be in the Austrian Supercup against Salzburg.

For Kayombo, his immediate goal will be to integrate into his new team after the medical exam. Fans and staff at Sturm Graz have high expectations for the young player based on his recent form. They hope he can make a significant impact in both domestic and European competitions.
