Amorim Defiant: Man United Boss Vows to Stay Despite Difficult Season
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim insists he won’t quit, even though his first season at Old Trafford hasn’t gone well.
STANDING FIRM
“I will not quit. I am confident in my job and I will not change anything,” Amorim said. He added that if the board or fans think he’s not the right person, he’d leave without any compensation. His comments follow Manchester United‘s Europa League final loss, adding to a tough debut season for the 40-year-old.
A SEASON OF STRUGGLE
Amorim’s time at Manchester United is very different from his success at Sporting CP. After taking over on November 1, 2024, to replace Erik ten Hag, Amorim hasn’t been able to repeat his winning ways. United are now in a disappointing 14th place in the Premier League. This is far below what fans expect from such a big club. This is despite Amorim’s optimism about 2025.
THE SPORTING LEGACY
The drop in performance is especially clear when compared to Amorim’s amazing record at Sporting CP. Before joining United, he’d led Sporting to 16 wins and just one draw. This included a big 4-1 win over Manchester City in the Champions League. When he left, Sporting were six points ahead in the league with 11 wins in 11 matches. But since arriving at Old Trafford, Amorim’s plans haven’t worked as they did in Portugal.
WHAT NEXT FOR UNITED?
The Premier League season is ending, and United are near the bottom half of the table. Big changes are expected in the summer transfer window. Despite the poor results, Amorim believes he can turn things around if given more time. The 40-year-old manager was one of football’s brightest young coaches at Sporting. He now faces a huge task in rebuilding a once-great Manchester United team. We’ll see if the board gives him the time he needs.
