Manchester United Keep Amorim Despite Europa League Loss
Manchester United have chosen to stay with manager Ruben Amorim after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur. Wolves forward Matheus Cunha is set to be a big summer signing, while star winger Alejandro Garnacho might be sold if a good offer comes in.
WHAT HAPPENED?
After United‘s Europa League loss, there were questions about Amorim‘s position. He even said in a press conference: “If the board and the fans feel I’m not the right guy, I will go in the next day without any conversation about compensation.” Despite this, the club’s owners still support him.
United have had a tough season, sitting 16th in the Premier League with just 10 wins. This poor league performance and the final loss are pushing the club to make big changes this summer.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are ready to give Amorim a big transfer budget of about £100 million for the 2025/26 season. The first major signing is likely to be Wolves striker Matheus Cunha for around £62.5 million, as the club is speeding up talks to get him.
United are also looking at Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap, who has a £30 million release clause. These signings would use up most of the budget, so they might need to sell players to bring in more talent.
Surprisingly, Garnacho might be sold this summer if a good offer comes in. He is one of the few positive stories in a tough season.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR MANCHESTER UNITED?
Amorim’s contract lasts until 2027, giving him time to work on his plans at Old Trafford. But he needs to improve quickly in the 2025/26 season, or the club might change its mind about keeping him.
The club is also working on keeping young talent, like 18-year-old defender Harry Amass. He is set for contract talks after making five senior appearances since mid-March.
Manchester United have one final Premier League match this weekend before focusing on rebuilding the team. With limited funds, selling Garnacho could give them extra money to strengthen several areas.
