Bayern Munich Signs Jonathan Tah on Four-Year Contract

Bayern Munich has signed German defender Jonathan Tah on a four-year deal. The 29-year-old will have his medical soon to complete the move, which will keep him at the Allianz Arena until June 2029.

WHAT HAPPENED?

After months of rumors, Bayern Munich has finally signed Bayer Leverkusen’s defender Jonathan Tah. He joins on a free transfer after his Leverkusen contract ends this summer. Tah rejected interest from Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, to stay in Germany.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

This is a big win for Bayern Munich. Tah was key to Bayer Leverkusen’s first Bundesliga title this season. Bayern is second in the Bundesliga, four points behind RB Leipzig with three games left. Tah will help strengthen their defense, which has allowed 35 goals in 31 league matches.

While Tah joins Bayern, the club looks set to miss out on Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, who prefers a move to Liverpool. This shows Bayern is focusing on defense while looking elsewhere for attack options next season.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR TAH?

After completing his medical and signing for Bayern, Tah will join the German national team for the European Championships. Bayern is negotiating with Leverkusen to allow Tah to play for them starting June 1, so he can participate in the FIFA Club World Cup in the U.S. from June 14 to July 13. This will be Bayern’s first big test with their new defender.

Bayern’s next Bundesliga match is against Borussia Dortmund, a crucial game that could decide their league standing. They are four points behind leaders RB Leipzig and need a strong finish to stay in the Champions League spots for next season.
