Arsenal Set to Sign Martin Zubimendi as Midfield Overhaul Begins

Arsenal are close to signing Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi for €60 million (£51m). The 26-year-old Spain international will have a medical exam soon. Arsenal is working on a new midfield lineup after Jorginho left the team.

TRANSFER DEAL COMPLETE

All paperwork is done for Zubimendi‘s transfer to Arsenal. Only the medical exam is left before the deal is complete. Arsenal will pay his €60 million release clause to bring him to North London. They have wanted him for several transfer windows. This is Arsenal’s first major signing of the summer. They finished second in the Premier League, behind Liverpool.

MIDFIELD TRANSFORMATION

Zubimendi joins as manager Mikel Arteta confirmed Jorginho left the team on a free transfer. Jorginho is likely joining Brazilian club Flamengo. Talks are ongoing for Thomas Partey to extend his contract. Arteta wants to keep some midfield continuity while refreshing the squad. Strengthening the midfield is a key part of Arsenal’s summer plans as they aim to challenge for the title next season.

LONG-TERM TARGET SECURED

Arsenal’s persistence has paid off after their long-term interest in Zubimendi. The club had agreed personal terms with him back in January, showing this was a planned move. Despite interest from Liverpool last summer and recent links to Real Madrid, Arsenal have secured Zubimendi. He is known for his calmness, passing skills, and defensive work rate, which suit Arteta’s possession-based style.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR ARSENAL?

After this first signing, Arsenal plan to sign at least three more players this summer. This is under the leadership of new sporting director Andrea Berta. They failed to win the Premier League and reached the Champions League semi-finals this season. Arsenal are set on strengthening their squad to compete for major trophies next season. Zubimendi is the start of what could be an exciting summer rebuild.
