Kelleher Completes Brentford Medical as £18m Liverpool Exit Nears Completion

Caoimhin Kelleher has passed his medical at Brentford. He’s getting closer to finishing his £18 million transfer from Liverpool and becoming the Bees’ new main goalkeeper.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The 26-year-old Irish goalkeeper has finished his medical check at Brentford, moving closer to his £18 million transfer from Liverpool. This deal, which took some days to complete, will give Kelleher a chance to be a Premier League main goalkeeper. He has been a backup for Alisson Becker at Anfield. Liverpool agreed to the deal over the weekend, and now Kelleher is ready to join the west London club.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Kelleher’s move to Brentford is part of a big change in goalkeepers, as current Brentford main goalkeeper Mark Flekken is going to join German champions Bayer Leverkusen. The deal works well for all sides. Kelleher gets the playing time he has wanted, while Brentford gets a goalkeeper who has shown his skills at Liverpool, even with few chances. Liverpool gets a good fee for a player with only a year left on his contract.

Liverpool fans are happy with the news. Many are thanking Kelleher for what he did for the club, like his great performances in two Carabao Cup finals. The Irishman leaves Anfield after seven seasons, during which he became one of the Premier League’s most reliable backup goalkeepers.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR KELLEHER?

Once his transfer is finished, which should be announced soon, Kelleher will join the Republic of Ireland national team for friendly games against Senegal and Luxembourg. Moving to Brentford is a great chance for Kelleher to become a regular Premier League player before the 2025/26 season.

Brentford ended up 14th in the Premier League last season, just five points above the danger of relegation. The Bees hope Kelleher’s arrival will help them reach the top half of the table next season. The goalkeeper will face his old team when Brentford plays Liverpool in the Premier League, with the first game set for September at the Gtech Community Stadium.
