PSG Chairman Urges Team to Stay Humble After Champions League Triumph

Paris Saint-Germain chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi wants the team to stay humble and continue working hard after their historic Champions League win over Inter Milan.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Just days after PSG won their first Champions League title by beating Inter Milan 5-0, chairman Al-Khelaifi is already thinking about the future. He told the players to keep their desire for success: “We need to be very humble today, work harder, work even more to improve ourselves, to improve our team.” His words show that he doesn’t want this win to be the end of their goals, but the start of more success.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

This Champions League win is the result of a 14-year journey since Qatar Sports Investments took over PSG in 2011, turning them into a top European club. Al-Khelaifi has praised former stars like Neymar, Messi, and Mbappé for their role in the club’s journey. “They were part of the success… never going to forget,” he said in a recent interview. But it is PSG’s focus on young talent that led to their European win, with Ousmane Dembélé named the best player of the Champions League and seven PSG players in UEFA’s team of the tournament.

The victory parade in Paris was emotional, with Al-Khelaifi almost in tears as he celebrated with fans. He even said he “slept with the trophy” – showing how important this win is for the 51-year-old leader who has become one of the most powerful people in football.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR PSG?

With the Champions League win secured, PSG now focuses on staying on top and possibly building a European dynasty. Several key players will join their national teams for summer competitions, but Al-Khelaifi’s message means that preparation for next season starts now. The club has already shown dedication to stability by extending sporting director Luis Campos’ contract last month.

PSG has a mix of established stars and young talents, with Dembélé leading the attack and longtime captain Marquinhos holding the defense. This mix of youth and experience, along with their new Champions League experience, makes PSG a strong team heading into the 2025-26 season. They will look to defend their European crown while continuing their traditional success in Ligue 1.
