Lazio Complete €9m Permanent Transfer of Nuno Tavares From Arsenal

Nuno Tavares has joined Lazio from Arsenal for €9m. The Italian club activated their buy clause after his successful loan last season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Lazio have signed Nuno Tavares permanently from Arsenal. The 25-year-old full-back has a three-year contract with the club until June 30, 2028. Arsenal will receive between €6-7 million for the transfer, ending Tavares’ four years with the London club.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Tavares was a key player for Lazio during his loan season. He assisted nine goals in 30 appearances, helping the team finish seventh in Serie A. His attacking abilities from the left-back position made him essential for Lazio. Before his time in Italy, Tavares was loaned to Marseille and Nottingham Forest by Arsenal. Despite selling him, Arsenal could benefit from a future sale, as they’ve reportedly included a 25% sell-on clause in the deal with Lazio.

WHAT ARSENAL SAID

Arsenal thanked Tavares in an official statement: “Nuno Tavares has moved to Serie A side Lazio on a permanent transfer. Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Nuno for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best for the future.”

WHAT’S NEXT FOR TAVARES?

Tavares can now establish himself as a regular in Lazio’s defense as they prepare for their Europa Conference League campaign next season. The Italian side is just three points behind sixth-placed Roma in Serie A. Interestingly, Football Italia reports that Lazio might consider selling Tavares for as much as €65m, given his impressive displays, which have drawn interest from several top European clubs. This could mean a substantial profit on their €9m investment, with Arsenal set to receive 25% of any future transfer fee.
