Manchester City Seal Deal for Rayan Aït-Nouri in €40m Transfer

Manchester City have agreed to buy Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back Rayan Aït-Nouri for about €40 million. Aït-Nouri, the Algerian international, will undergo medical tests this weekend after accepting City’s offer earlier this week.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On Thursday, City and Wolves wrapped up negotiations, and the 23-year-old left-back is set to join the Premier League champions. The transfer amount is reported to be around €40 million. Aït-Nouri’s medical is scheduled for Saturday, after which he will become City’s newest player. This is the second signing of the summer for the champions, who ended runner-up behind Arsenal last season.

WHY CITY PUSHED FOR AÏT-NOURI

City finished second last season after missing out on the title by two points. The shortage of depth at left-back was an issue throughout the season with Nathan Ake, a constant performer for the champions, getting injured twice. Aït-Nouri will provide that depth for the champions. The 23-year-old has been one of the standout performers for Wolves, one of the best sides in the Premier League, with 37 appearances across all competitions, three goals, and five assists.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR CITY AND WOLVES?

Aït-Nouri’s medical is expected to be done by Saturday, and he will sign a long-term contract at the Etihad Stadium. City are looking to reclaim the title under Pep Guardiola, and they will be expected to go deep in the Champions League once again. City take on Leicester in their first game of the season, and Aït-Nouri could make his debut against the recently promoted side.
