Manchester City Sign Two New Players Before Club World Cup

Manchester City have quickly signed Rayan Aït-Nouri and Tijjani Reijnders. They completed these transfers before this month’s FIFA Club World Cup in the USA.

TRANSFER DETAILS CONFIRMED

Manchester City have agreed to buy left-back Rayan Aït-Nouri from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Algerian international will have his medical check on Saturday. The deal costs around £40-45 million. City quickly agreed on terms with him. Aït-Nouri is considered important to strengthen Pep Guardiola’s defense for the FIFA Club World Cup.

In another big move, City signed Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan for £46.3 million (€55 million). The 26-year-old Netherlands international will have his medical check on Sunday. Then he will sign a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium. Reijnders was one of the best players last season in Serie A, scoring and assisting the most goals among midfielders in the league.

GUARDIOLA’S SQUAD STRENGTHENING

These signings show the Premier League champions are serious about improving the team. Reijnders, who scored 15 goals last season, will replace Kevin De Bruyne, who recently left the club. The Dutch midfielder was the best player in AC Milan’s disappointing season where they finished eighth and missed European qualification.

City’s signing of Aït-Nouri solves their problem of needing a specialized left-back. The club previously used different players for this position. The 24-year-old defender is known for his attacking skills and defensive strength at Wolves. He fits well into Guardiola’s playing style.

CLUB WORLD CUP PREPARATIONS

Manchester City are working hard to improve their squad before the FIFA Club World Cup begins later in June. The early registration for the tournament ends on Tuesday, June 10. This gives clubs little time to register new players. City’s first match is against Moroccan team Wydad Casablanca in Philadelphia on June 18.

While City want their new players to be ready for this important international tournament, they won’t hurry the deals just for the competition. Teams can also register players later from June 27 to July 3, after the group stages.

After nearly completing these two signings, City are also trying to sign other players. These include Lyon’s Rayan Cherki and Southampton’s Tino Livramento. They want to create a strong team for competing next season.
