Real Madrid Close to Sealing Mastantuono Transfer from River Plate
Real Madrid are about to complete a deal for Argentine wonderkid Franco Mastantuono from River Plate. The Spanish giants have agreed on personal terms with the player. Now, they are in advanced talks with the club to finalize what could be a €45 million transfer.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Real Madrid have told River Plate they have agreed on all contract details with 17-year-old Franco Mastantuono. Talks between the clubs are ongoing, with the transfer fee expected to be around €45 million. The teenage star wants to join the European champions, rejecting interest from other clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Mastantuono has been making headlines since his River Plate debut in January 2024. He quickly became one of South America’s top talents. His amazing left foot and maturity earned him a starting spot at River under coach Marcelo Gallardo. Real Madrid want to sign young talents, and Mastantuono would be their fourth summer signing after Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Alvaro Carreras.
Currently, Real Madrid are preparing for the Club World Cup under new manager Xabi Alonso. He has reportedly approved the transfer. The Spanish giants have been watching Mastantuono for 12 to 18 months before making their move.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR MASTANTUONO?
Even if the deal is completed soon, Mastantuono won’t join Real Madrid right away. He can’t officially join Xabi Alonso’s squad until he turns 18 in August because of FIFA rules. River Plate hope to keep the youngster until December to help them in the Copa Libertadores and possibly the Club World Cup.
The midfielder just got his first call-up to Argentina’s national team for World Cup Qualifiers. If he plays, Mastantuono would become the youngest player ever to debut for Argentina in an official match. This would be another highlight in his fast-growing career before moving to Santiago Bernabéu.
