Victor Boniface Set To Leave Bayer Leverkusen This Summer

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface might leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer. Both he and the club are open to a transfer if the right offer comes.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Bayer Leverkusen wants €50 million for Victor Boniface, who is attracting attention. The 24-year-old joined from Union Saint-Gilloise in July 2023 but is now second-choice behind Patrik Schick. Despite playing less, Boniface has scored 11 goals and provided two assists. His quality is drawing interest from several clubs.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Boniface’s time at Leverkusen has been tough. He started well in the 2023/24 season, but a bad injury stopped his progress. Since returning in early 2025, he has scored only twice in the Bundesliga. A move to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia almost happened in January, but they chose Aston Villa’s Jhon Durán instead.

POTENTIAL DESTINATIONS

Newcastle United is leading the race for Boniface. The Premier League club has been talking to Leverkusen and Boniface’s people. With Callum Wilson leaving, Newcastle needs a striker, and Boniface fits well. Backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, they are not put off by the €50 million price. This move is likely as Leverkusen plans a big squad change with Xabi Alonso set to leave.

WHAT NEXT FOR BONIFACE?

With summer’s transfer window nearing, Boniface looks ready to leave BayArena. After missing out on a January move, he came back to score against TSG Hoffenheim in February. His future will likely be decided soon, as Leverkusen undergoes huge squad changes. A sale could see Leverkusen earn a big profit on the €20 million they paid for him in 2023.
