Luis Henrique Completes €25m Move to Inter Milan
Brazilian winger Luis Henrique has completed his transfer to Inter Milan from Olympique Marseille. The deal is worth €25 million. The 23-year-old winger has signed a five-year contract with the Italian giants, who are preparing for the FIFA Club World Cup.
What happened?
Inter Milan announced on Saturday that they had signed Henrique from Marseille. The transfer reportedly includes a €22 million base fee plus €3 million in potential bonuses. Henrique will earn €2.5 million per season on his contract, which runs until 2030. Inter confirmed the signing with a message on social media: “A new Inter player joins the family, welcome Luis.” Henrique is Inter’s second summer signing, following the arrival of Croatian midfielder Petar Sucic from Dinamo Zagreb last week for €14 million.
The bigger picture
Henrique has established himself as a talented attacking player in France. He scored 7 goals and provided 8 assists for Marseille in Ligue 1 last season. The Brazilian joined the club in 2020 but spent a season on loan at Botafogo before returning to Ligue 1 in January. His arrival helps strengthen an Inter side that finished second in both Serie A and the UEFA Champions League this season. They were just three points behind champions SSC Napoli.
What Henrique said
Henrique expressed his enthusiasm about joining Inter in his first interview with the club’s media: “I am very happy to have signed for such a big club. I think it will be a huge jump in quality in my career,” Henrique stated. “I have known this league very well since a young age. There have been many important Brazilians that have played here at Inter. I also want to make history here, just like they did.” The winger also mentioned his ambitions for immediate success: “I hope we will make it as far as possible and that we will manage to win this competition that is starting soon.”
What’s next for Inter?
Inter Milan are preparing for the FIFA Club World Cup, which begins on June 14 in the United States. The tournament presents an immediate opportunity for Henrique to make an impact at his new club. Additionally, Inter are expected to announce Cristian Chivu as their new head coach early next week, replacing Simone Inzaghi, who departed to join Saudi club Al Hilal. The Nerazzurri will aim to go one better in both Serie A and the Champions League next season after narrowly missing out on both titles this year. Their first league match of the new season is scheduled for August 17 against newly promoted Como, who finished just two points ahead of Venezia in the Serie B standings last season.
