Tottenham Close In On Thomas Frank As New Head Coach

Tottenham Hotspur are getting closer to appointing Brentford manager Thomas Frank as their new head coach. The North London club hopes to finalize the deal soon.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Tottenham quickly identified their top choice after firing Ange Postecoglou on June 6, 2025. The club is doing well in negotiations with Thomas Frank, with more talks set for next week. Spurs are willing to pay Frank’s release clause, around £10 million, to get the 51-year-old Danish manager.

The appointment follows Postecoglou’s unexpected firing despite winning the Europa League this season. However, their 17th-place finish in the Premier League led to his dismissal, along with several staff members.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Thomas Frank is considered one of the Premier League’s top managers at Brentford. He led the Bees to a 10th-place finish despite financial challenges compared to other teams.

Frank’s ability to develop players fits well with Tottenham’s youth-focused approach under technical director Johan Lange, who is key in appointing Postecoglou’s successor. Interestingly, Lange and Frank have worked together before at Danish club Lyngby.

In 317 matches with Brentford, Frank has 136 wins, 71 draws, and 110 losses, with his team scoring 527 goals and conceding 418. His balanced style, combining attack and defense, makes him appealing to Spurs as they look to rebuild.

WHAT NEXT FOR TOTTENHAM?

The club wants to wrap up Frank’s appointment quickly to prepare for a big summer of rebuilding. With the UEFA Super Cup coming up after their Europa League win, Tottenham wants their new manager ready for pre-season and possible transfers.

Sources say Frank is interested in the Tottenham job and would likely bring some Brentford staff with him to North London. This would be a fresh start for Spurs, who have kept senior assistant coach Matt Wells and goalkeeping coach Rob Burch for now, but their futures are uncertain once the new manager is in place.

While fans were initially upset by Postecoglou’s exit, the arrival of a manager like Frank could ease worries as Tottenham aims to improve from their 17th-place league finish and build on their European success.
