Napoli Set to Sign Empoli Defender Luca Marianucci

Napoli are expected to make their first summer signing this week by securing the services of Empoli defender Luca Marianucci. Marianucci will undergo medical tests on Tuesday before signing a five-year contract.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED?

The 20-year-old defender will undergo medical tests in Rome ahead of his move to the Serie A champions. The two clubs reached an agreement back in March, with Napoli set to pay €9 million for Marianucci’s services. The defender will sign a five-year deal with the side once the paperwork has been completed.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Marianucci will be the club’s first signing of the summer to bolster their squad ahead of the 2025-26 season. The youngster has enjoyed a fine season for Empoli, appearing 24 times in all competitions and providing two assists under Roberto D’Aversa .

Napoli view Marianucci as part of a defensive refresh and are interested in more players in that area, with Bologna’s Sam Beukema another primary target. In attack, Bologna’s Dan Ndoye is also among those thought to be at the top of their wishlist .

EXPLAINED: WHY THERE HAS BEEN A DELAY IN MARIANUCCI’S SIGNING

Marianucci will soon head to Napoli after his medical tests were delayed last week. As GOAL reported, the tests that were scheduled for last week were put on hold due to logistical complications but there were no doubts about the player’s imminent transfer . The tests will be conducted in Rome and he can then be confirmed as a Napoli player .

WHAT NEXT FOR NAPOLI?

The 2025-26 Serie A season will soon begin and Napoli will be eager to wrap up Marianucci’s signing in the near future. Once that deal is secured, they are expected to move on to other targets and could complete more signings in the coming weeks.

With Napoli set to compete in the Champions League next season, squad depth will be of vital importance as they look to regain their Serie A crown and achieve success in Europe. Marianucci’s signing is expected to be the first of several new faces as they attempt to negotiate an intense schedule in the upcoming season.
