Napoli Close to Signing Bologna’s Dan Ndoye as Transfer Talks Progress
Napoli are close to signing Dan Ndoye from Bologna. They are almost done agreeing on personal terms with the player. The Swiss international is a key target for coach Antonio Conte, who wants to strengthen his attack for the new Serie A season.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Napoli have held face-to-face talks with Dan Ndoye‘s representatives in Rome this week. They want him to fill the wide attacking role, which Conte is keen to strengthen. The club need to agree a deal with Bologna, who value Ndoye at €40million (£35m/$42m), but he remains their priority target despite interest in Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho.
Bologna have stated their intent to keep their best players this summer, although the offer of a high price for Ndoye may tempt them to sell. The winger has notched nine goals and six assists in 41 appearances this season.
WHY ND OYE IS CONTE’S CHOICE
Dan Ndoye has made the most out of a first-team breakthrough this season and has caught the eye at home and abroad. He struck the winning goal in the Coppa Italia final and found the net in a victory for Switzerland over Mexico at the weekend.
Conte and Napoli sporting director Dejan Stankovic see him as an ideal replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. He is quick, works hard and has got the adaptability to play across the front line.
Ndoye has been open about the prospect of a move, saying: “When a team that wins the Scudetto and a coach like Conte wants you, it is always something special.”
WHAT COMES NEXT?
Napoli finished 10th in Serie A last season, a stark contrast to their title-winning 2022-23 campaign. They are planning a reinforce under new management to try and get back to their place among the elite.
Next, the club must agree terms with Bologna in order to complete the signing of Ndoye before the start of pre-season.
Bologna finished fifth in Serie A, securing a Champions League spot for the first time in 40 years, and are therefore reluctant to lose their key players.
Napoli will be in action when they kick off their Serie A campaign, where they will be under new management with a fresh squad for the new campaign.
