Federico Chiesa Looks to Leave Liverpool for More Game Time

Federico Chiesa wants to find a new team this summer to play more often. Italy coach Gennaro Gattuso says he needs more playing time before the new season starts.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Chiesa joined Liverpool from Juventus last summer, but he hasn’t played much. He had only 41 minutes in the Premier League mostly because of injuries. Napoli are talking to Liverpool about Chiesa and Darwin Nunez. Both players might move to the Serie A team for more regular game time. Gattuso said Chiesa needs to play often to stay important for the Italy national team.

WHY IT MATTERS FOR LIVERPOOL AND CHIESA

If Chiesa leaves, it would end a tough season for him. He was Liverpool’s only big signing last summer but didn’t make much impact. Manager Arne Slot praised his attitude, but Chiesa couldn’t get many minutes and struggled to fit into Jurgen Klopp’s champion team. Liverpool won the Premier League title, but their attack will change, especially since they signed Florian Wirtz for a record fee. Napoli, who finished second in Serie A, want to rebuild under Antonio Conte and are interested in Chiesa. Talks between the clubs are already happening.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

With the transfer window open, Liverpool might consider offers for Chiesa. He is ready to take a pay cut to leave Anfield. Napoli are the favorites to sign him, but other teams like Tottenham are watching closely. For Liverpool, their upcoming pre-season games are important to evaluate their new squad. Chiesa’s future should be decided before the new season begins. Napoli are getting ready for the Champions League qualifiers and want to make their team stronger after finishing just two points behind the champions. Both Liverpool and Napoli are expected to make more transfers in the coming weeks.
