Thomas Partey Set to Leave Arsenal as Contract Talks Collapse

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is close to leaving the club as negotiations over a new deal have broken down. With no agreement reached, the experienced Ghanaian could soon become a free agent.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Talks between Arsenal and Thomas Partey over a contract extension have stalled, with no progress made despite efforts from both sides. The 32-year-old, whose current deal ends on June 30, has asked for a salary increase, but the club is only willing to match his present wage.

As a result, there are now serious chances that Partey will depart by the end of the month, leaving him available on a free transfer. Reports have linked clubs like Fenerbahce and AC Milan with submitting offers for the midfielder, signaling interest from abroad as his Arsenal future hangs in the balance.

ARSENAL’S SEASON AND PARTEY’S ROLE

Partey enjoyed his most consistent season yet for Arsenal in 2024-25, making 52 appearances across all competitions and scoring four goals. His improved fitness and reliability were praised by manager Mikel Arteta, who has described Partey as a key player in the squad.

Arsenal ended the campaign as runners-up in the Premier League, finishing just behind champions Manchester City, while also mounting deep runs in the Champions League. The club has already agreed a deal to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad to strengthen the midfield, following the confirmed departure of Jorginho.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR PARTEY AND ARSENAL?

With his Arsenal contract expiring at the end of June, Partey could officially leave in the coming days. If no late agreement is reached, he will be free to join any club without a transfer fee.

Both Fenerbahce and AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing him this summer. Arsenal, meanwhile, are preparing for the new season by integrating Zubimendi and searching for further reinforcements. Their first fixture of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign will be at home against Brighton, with the Gunners eager to close the gap to City and defend their place near the top of the table.
