Amar Dedić Set to Join Benfica in €10 Million Deal

Amar Dedić is close to signing with Benfica. Only a few details remain before the right-back joins the Portuguese club for around €10 million.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The 22-year-old Bosnia player was recently at Red Bull Salzburg after being on loan at Olympique de Marseille. He will sign a five-year contract with Benfica, lasting until June 2030. Dedić played in France during the second half of last season, appearing 10 times and providing one assist. While he showed promise, he didn’t play consistently, and Marseille didn’t pursue a permanent deal. Benfica moved quickly to sign him, viewing him as a valuable addition for head coach Bruno Lage to strengthen the defense for the upcoming season.

WHY THIS MOVE MATTERS

Benfica finished second in the 2024/25 Primeira Liga season, four points behind champions Porto. The team had a solid defense but lacked depth on the right side. Dedić, known for his speed and strong defense, is expected to fill this gap. Benfica will compete in domestic and European tournaments next season, including a chance to play in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup if they advance. Dedić joins a team with high ambitions, having reached the Champions League quarterfinals last season, and he is seen as a player who can immediately contribute.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR BENFICA?

Once the deal is officially announced, Dedić could join pre-season training with his new teammates in July. Benfica’s next competitive match will be against Porto in the Portuguese Super Cup in early August, potentially providing Dedić with the opportunity to debut against last season’s champions. Domestically, Benfica aims to reclaim the league title, while in Europe, they focus on surpassing last season’s quarterfinals. Dedić’s arrival increases competition in defense as Benfica aims to close the gap with Porto while holding off third-place Sporting CP, who finished just three points behind them this year.
