Fiorentina Secure Agreement to Sign Mattia Viti from OGC Nice

Fiorentina have agreed to bring in central defender Mattia Viti from French club OGC Nice. The 23-year-old will join on loan, with the option for Fiorentina to buy him for around €4.5-5 million. The deal also includes a sell-on clause for Nice.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Mattia Viti spent last season on loan at Empoli and is now set to continue his career in Italy with Fiorentina. After returning to Nice this summer, Fiorentina showed strong interest in the Italian defender. The clubs have agreed on a loan with a non-obligatory buy option worth about €4.5 million. OGC Nice will keep a 10–15% sell-on clause. This will be Fiorentina’s third signing of the summer as they prepare for the new Serie A season.

CONTEXT: RECENT FORM AND TRANSFER STRATEGY

Fiorentina finished last season in 8th place, missing out on European football by six points. Their defense was a concern, letting in 51 goals in 38 matches. Coach Stefano Pioli wants to strengthen the defense, and Viti’s arrival is part of a plan to bring in young Italian talent. For Viti, who is under contract with Nice until 2027, this move offers a chance to reestablish himself in Serie A after a tough time in Ligue 1.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR FIORENTINA AND VITI?

Fiorentina are expected to finalize the deal soon, making Viti their third signing after Džeko and Fazzini. With preseason starting soon, Viti will aim to impress and secure a regular place in the team. Fiorentina’s first match of the new Serie A season will be against Udinese, who finished just two places below them last season. As Fiorentina aim to move up to the European places, Viti’s performance could be key in tightening the defense and boosting their chances in the new campaign.
