Benfica Secure Amar Dedić Signing on Five-Year Deal

Benfica have finalized the signing of Bosnian right-back Amar Dedić, who has arrived in Lisbon and is set to sign a five-year contract with the Portuguese giants.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The transfer agreement between Benfica and Red Bull Salzburg is complete, with reports indicating a fee close to €12 million. Dedić, 22, has already completed his medical tests and will make his move official with the club’s statement expected soon. Last season, Dedić spent time on loan at Marseille, making 10 appearances and providing one assist, although Marseille chose not to trigger their option to buy. Now, he joins a Benfica squad looking to reinforce its back line after narrowly missing the top of the Primeira Liga in the 2024/25 campaign.

IMPACT FOR BENFICA

Benfica ended the season in second place in the Primeira Liga, just behind Sporting CP. The team finished with 85 points, three fewer than the champions. Defensive consistency was an ongoing challenge, especially on the right flank, where injuries and rotation affected performance. Dedić’s arrival is expected to bring needed stability and energy to the position. The young full-back is known for his pace, work rate, and ability to support the attack, qualities showcased both with Salzburg and during his loan at Marseille.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR DEDIĆ AND BENFICA?

With official confirmation imminent, Dedić is expected to join pre-season training immediately as Benfica prepare for the Champions League qualifiers in July. The team’s playing the Club World Cup as they cut their summer break short to prepare for next season’s challenges. With Dedić on board, Benfica aim to strengthen their squad and challenge for domestic and European glory in the coming season.
