Al Shabab Submit Offer for Olympiacos Midfielder Chiquinho

Saudi Arabian club Al Shabab have made an official bid for Portuguese midfielder Chiquinho from Olympiacos. Though Chiquinho is the club’s top transfer target, the Greek outfit are yet to agree to Al Shabab’s offer to sign Chiquinho.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Al Shabab approached Olympiacos with a formal offer for Chiquinho as they strive to strengthen their midfield for the upcoming season. The club sees the Portuguese player as a priority signing, who could bolster their midfield. However, negotiations between Al Shabab and Olympiacos are still ongoing, with both sides still working to agree on a transfer fee or personal terms for the player.

Riyadh-based club Al Shabab finished mid-table last season in the Saudi Pro League. They finished eighth out of 20 teams in the 2024-25 league last season and are hoping to reinforce their squad this summer.

WHY CHIQUINHO?

Chiquinho played an important role for Olympiacos last season, helping the team in many crucial matches both on the domestic as well as European fronts. His creativity and experience made him a regular starter for the Greek club and throughout the course of the season he assisted in several goals. Olympiacos won one more Greek Super League 16 points ahead of second place Panathinaikos. Losing Chiquinho could prove to be a damaging blow for Olympiacos as his departure could further weaken his team’s midfield.

The 30-year-old has been an Olympiacos player since 2020, when he joined the club for £3.2 million from Benfica. The midfielder is contracted to the Greek side until the summer of 2027 and is valued at €4.5 million (£3.9m).

WHAT NEXT?

Al Shabab will hope to finalise their player’s recruitment plan soon, having splashed £18.5 million to bring in Brazilian midfielder Vinicius Souza from Espanyol and having also lured in Tete from Lens.
