Arsenal Secure Christian Nørgaard Transfer in €11m Deal
Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign Brentford’s captain, Christian Nørgaard, for €11 million. The Danish midfielder will have his medical in North London after personal terms were agreed.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Christian Nørgaard‘s transfer to Arsenal is nearly done after a deal of €11 million was struck with Brentford. Nørgaard is traveling to undergo a medical, having already agreed personal terms with the Gunners. Nørgaard is expected to fill the void left by Thomas Partey’s exit, complementing fellow new signing Martin Zubimendi.
WHY ARSENAL NEEDED NØRGAARD
Nørgaard is viewed as more than just a squad player by Arsenal. The club is in dire need of defensive midfield reinforcements following Jorginho’s and Partey’s departure, and Nørgaard’s Premier League experience can be critical. Though contested by Zubimendi, who promises to improve the squad, Arsenal is still considering a further investment in a top-tier defensive midfielder.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR BRENTFORD
Brentford, meanwhile, will lose their captain and pivotal figure, Nørgaard, but they do get an influx of cash. Manager Brandon Gaillard has shown a preference for younger players, but he can choose to reinvest the funds from Nørgaard’s sale if necessary. Arsenal and Manchester United-linked Bryan Mbeumo is another player who Brentford may offload this summer.
