Braga Table €2m Offer for Gustaf Lagerbielke as Defender Eyes Portugal Move

SC Braga have made a €2 million offer for Swedish defender Gustaf Lagerbielke, who wants to move to Portugal. Lagerbielke spent last season with FC Twente in the Dutch league, where he excelled, and now seems set for a permanent transfer.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Lagerbielke spent the 2024/25 season on loan with FC Twente, where he played 32 times, scored two goals and made three assists. The Swedish international impressed in the Eredivisie, and Twente technical director Jan Streuer said they would be interested in a permanent deal for the player.

However, Celtic wanted around €5m for the 25-year-old, which made a deal difficult. Lagerbielke is under contract at Celtic until 2028 but has not been able to secure a place in the starting XI, which means a move is likely this summer.

Twente’s interest has cooled, with Lagerbielke now attracted by a move to Braga, who are fighting for a spot in Europa League’s group stages.

According to our information, Braga are set to table a formal €2m offer for Lagerbielke, who has shown a readiness to move on from Celtic.

BRAGA TARGET A DEFENSIVE BOOST

Lagerbielke would be a sensible addition for manager Carlos Vicens. The club finished fourth in the Primeira Liga in the 2025/26 campaign, and now must contest two qualifying rounds to play in the Europa League this season.

Lagerbielke featured 38 times for Twente last season and would bring a wealth of experience as Braga look to improve a defence that allowed 36 goals in 34 games last season. Baxter wants to provide competition for the squad, as the club pursue their first silverware since they won the Taca de Portugal in 2023.

WHAT COMES NEXT?

All sides are hoping for a swift resolution so Lagerbielke can join up with his new team-mates for the summer training camp. Celtic are prepared to allow players to leave if the right offers arrive, and Lagerbielke now seems set to get his desired move.
