Ansu Fati Completes Medical Ahead of Monaco Move

Ansu Fati has completed his medical at AS Monaco, making his loan transfer from Barcelona nearly complete. The contract is expected to be signed over the weekend, finalizing the highly anticipated move for the Spanish winger.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Fati, 22, arrived in France this week for medical tests with AS Monaco. This is part of a year-long loan deal. Monaco and Barcelona have reached an agreement, including an option to buy. They will split his €13.5 million salary evenly during this loan. If Monaco wants to keep Fati beyond the loan, they can buy him for €11 million. Fati’s move follows his struggles for playtime at Barcelona and a disappointing loan at Brighton, where he scored four goals in 27 Premier League appearances last season.

According to a previous report we published, Barcelona agreed to loan Ansu Fati to AS Monaco.

MONACO’S AMBITIOUS REBUILD

This transfer is part of Monaco’s plan to reshape their squad for the 2025-26 season. They finished third in Ligue 1 and secured a return to the Champions League. Along with Fati, the club is also finalizing the signing of Paul Pogba and Eric Dier. They aim to mix young talent with experience in manager Adi Hütter’s team. Monaco’s third-place finish last season puts them just behind champions Paris Saint-Germain, and they hope to build on that success. Fati’s arrival aims to add energy and an attacking threat as Monaco prepares for European competition.

WHAT NEXT FOR FATI AND MONACO?

Once Fati signs his contract, he will join Monaco in pre-season training. They are preparing for the new Ligue 1 season and the Champions League group stages. For Fati, this is an important chance to restart his career after injuries and limited opportunities at Barcelona. Monaco’s first competitive match will be in early August. With new arrivals strengthening the squad, expectations will be high. They aim to close the gap to PSG and compete in Europe. Their opening Ligue 1 match is against Rennes, who finished fourth last season, just five points behind Monaco. This promises an early challenge for the refreshed squad.
