Dominic Calvert-Lewin Leaves Everton After Nine Years, Becomes Free Agent
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is leaving Everton after almost ten years at the club. The striker, who joined from Sheffield United in 2016 for £1.5 million, will be available as a free agent when his contract ends on July 1. Over his nine-year stay, Calvert-Lewin became a key player for the Toffees, making 273 appearances across all competitions, scoring 71 goals and providing 22 assists.
According to a previous report, Everton finished the 2024/25 Premier League season in 13th place.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In a farewell message, Calvert-Lewin described his time at Everton as “remarkable” and explained that he was leaving to seek a new challenge and continue his professional growth. The 28-year-old’s exit comes after he and the club failed to agree on a new contract.
EVERYTHING CHANGES FOR EVERTON
Calvert-Lewin’s announcement caps off a difficult campaign for Everton. The club battled with relegation for most of the 2024-25 season, ultimately narrowly surviving in the Premier League. Calvert-Lewin meanwhile, has seen his career derailed by injuries. He was scoring a measly three goals in 26 league appearances this season, inconsistent from a player who was once Everton’s attacking talisman.
EYES ON THE FUTURE: WHAT NEXT FOR CALVERT-LEWIN AND EVERTON?
The Toffees have failed to replace Calvert-Lewin during his injury absences but will now have to ensure they can do it permanently. David Moyes will have to find a replacement for Everton’s long-term No.9 as they look to get out of the relegation zone in the upcoming season.
