João Pedro Flies to US to Finalize Big-Money Move to Chelsea

João Pedro is on his way to the US to complete his transfer to Chelsea. The Brazilian forward is set to sign a contract until June 2032 and join the team for the FIFA Club World Cup right away.

FINAL STEPS IN THE DEAL

Chelsea and Brighton agreed on a transfer fee worth over £50 million for João Pedro. The player and his representatives are now traveling for the final part of his medical tests before officially signing his long-term contract. Chelsea have also wrapped up personal terms and expect no issues with the remaining steps.

A previous report confirmed that Chelsea agreed to pay a fee in excess of £50 million for João Pedro.

The club is moving quickly to register Pedro so he can be available for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the US. They are taking advantage of the tournament’s mid-registration window, which remains open until Thursday. Pedro is expected to join his new teammates in the United States immediately after completing all formalities.

WHY CHELSEA WANT JOÃO PEDRO

João Pedro impressed last season at Brighton, scoring 16 goals and providing four assists in all competitions. Chelsea struggled for consistency in attack during the 2024/25 campaign, finishing fourth in the Premier League, and narrowly clinching a Champions League spot.

A previous report confirmed that Chelsea finished the 2024/25 Premier League season in fourth place.

New coach Enzo Maresca is keen to add more attacking firepower, and the club sees Pedro’s ability as a dribbler and finisher as a perfect fit for their new style of play. Chelsea have also maintained a strong relationship with Brighton, having signed several players from the club in recent years.

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE CLUB WORLD CUP

Pedro’s immediate focus will be the FIFA Club World Cup, where Chelsea’s first match is the quarterfinal against Palmeiras this Friday in Philadelphia. While Pedro’s match fitness might not be at its peak, he is expected to be available for selection if registered in time.

A previous report confirmed that Chelsea will play Palmeiras in the Club World Cup quarter-finals this Friday.

Palmeiras, Chelsea’s opponent, recently finished second in the Brazilian Série A and will offer a tough test. Chelsea are targeting a strong showing in the tournament under new management, and Pedro’s arrival boosts their attacking options.

After the Club World Cup, Pedro is expected to integrate fully into the Chelsea squad for the upcoming Premier League and European campaigns.
