Tottenham Target West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus as Priority Summer Signing

Tottenham Hotspur want to sign West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus. The Ghanaian forward is at the top of their summer target list. Both clubs have started talking about the move, and Kudus is happy to consider joining Spurs to strengthen their attack next season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Tottenham need fresh talent in their squad for a Champions League campaign. They have contacted Kudus’ new representatives, and West Ham are ready to sell. However, the £85 million release clause could prove a sticking point. Spurs are hoping for a lower fee. This move would mean breaking the unofficial transfer ban between these clubs, as there have been no direct moves since 2011. Although Kudus is attracting other interest, he is still keen to join Thomas Frank’s team.

WHY KUDUS AND WHY NOW?

Kudus joined West Ham from Ajax and performed well, but it was an average 2024/25 Premier League season for him and his side. West Ham finished ninth and will miss European football. Kudus had seven goals and four assists in 31 league appearances. New boss Graham Potter wants to rebuild the squad, so West Ham are ready to sell Kudus and bring in new signings. Spurs and their new coach Thomas Frank want Kudus to join, particularly after losing Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR SPURS AND WEST HAM?

Spurs will try to finalise the deal early in July. Kudus’ release clause is valid for the first 10 days of the month. Tottenham have already qualified for the Champions League after finishing in the bottom of the 2024/25 Premier League but having won the Europa League.

According to a previous report, Tottenham finished the 2024/25 Premier League campaign in seventeenth place.
