Ansu Fati Seals Loan Move to AS Monaco with €11m Buy Option

Ansu Fati has completed a loan move from Barcelona to AS Monaco for the 2025-26 season. The French club has an €11 million option to buy. Barcelona has a buy-back clause and extended Fati’s contract until 2028, keeping future control of the talented forward.

According to a previous report, Fati‘s contract runs until 2028.

WHAT HAPPENED?

AS Monaco has announced the arrival of Ansu Fati on a season-long loan from Barcelona, with an €11 million buy option. This transfer comes after Fati struggled for minutes under Hansi Flick at Barcelona last season. He played only 11 games and scored four goals. The Spanish attacker, once seen as one of Europe’s brightest prospects, will wear the number 31 shirt at Monaco. Before leaving, Fati extended his contract with Barcelona through 2028, and the club retains a repurchase right. Both clubs will share Fati’s salary during the loan term.

A previous report confirmed that Ansu Fati’s salary of €13.5 million will be split evenly between AS Monaco and Barcelona during the loan.

MONACO’S BUSY TRANSFER MARKET

Fati’s arrival is the latest in a series of key signings for Monaco this summer. The club had already secured Eric Dier and Paul Pogba, strengthening both defense and midfield. Paul Pogba joined AS Monaco on a two-year contract until June 2027. Monaco’s ambition is clear as it prepares for the UEFA Champions League after finishing third in the 2024-25 Ligue 1 season. The club views Fati’s signing as an opportunity to add firepower and regain the form of a player who previously wore Barcelona’s iconic number 10 shirt.

A previous report confirmed that AS Monaco finished third in Ligue 1 last season.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR FATI AND MONACO?

Fati will soon join Monaco’s preseason camp as the club prepares for the 2025-26 campaign. His main goal is to regain match fitness and confidence after two difficult seasons hampered by injuries and limited playing time. Monaco will aim to improve on their strong third-place finish as they return to Champions League action. Their opening Ligue 1 fixture will be vital, as AS Monaco secured Champions League qualification in Ligue 1. Fati faces competition for a starting spot, but he has a clear route to regular minutes in a high-profile European campaign.

A previous report confirmed that AS Monaco will compete in Ligue 1 for the upcoming season starting in early August.
