Newcastle United Make Major £55m Bid for Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga

Newcastle United have submitted a significant £55 million offer to Nottingham Forest for winger Anthony Elanga as they push to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Newcastle United have renewed their pursuit of Anthony Elanga with a fresh bid of £55 million after an initial offer of £50 million was rejected by Nottingham Forest last month. The Magpies have been tracking Elanga since last summer and view him as a key target to bolster their right-wing options. Forest had previously insisted the 23-year-old Swede was not for sale, but the new sizable bid has put negotiations into motion, with Newcastle eager to complete the transfer as soon as possible.

According to a previous report, Newcastle’s initial offer of £50 million for Joao Pedro was rejected.

ELANGA’S RISE AT NOTTINGHAM FOREST

After joining Forest from Manchester United for about £15 million in 2023, Elanga has dramatically improved his performances. Last season, he made 38 Premier League appearances, scoring six goals and providing 11 assists. His contributions helped Nottingham Forest secure a remarkable seventh-place finish, earning qualification for European competition for the first time in decades. This breakthrough season has significantly increased his market value, with Newcastle prepared to pay nearly four times his original fee.

Nottingham Forest finished seventh in the Premier League last season, earning a spot in the next UEFA Conference League, as confirmed by a previous report.

IMPLICATIONS FOR NEWCASTLE AND FOREST

For Newcastle, the signing aligns with their ambition to compete strongly in the Champions League this coming season, especially after selling Miguel Almiron in January. The addition of Elanga would provide strong competition and versatility on the right wing following a campaign where Jacob Murphy was the main option in that position. Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, face the challenge of replacing a key creative force as they prepare for their first major European campaign in many years.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE TRANSFER?

Negotiations are ongoing as Newcastle push to finalize the deal swiftly. Forest reportedly value Elanga closer to £60 million, so it remains to be seen if the clubs can agree on a final fee. Meanwhile, Newcastle continue to pursue other targets to strengthen their squad. The outcome of this transfer will be pivotal for both teams as they prepare for the 2025-26 season with European football on the agenda.
