Idrissa Gana Gueye Signs New Everton Deal Until 2027

Everton’s Idrissa Gana Gueye has signed a new contract, staying at Goodison Park until June 2027. Gueye continues with the Toffees after playing a key role for the club last season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The 35-year-old midfielder has put pen to paper on a new contract with Everton until the summer of 2027. After consecutive relegation battles, Gueye and Everton reached safety well before the final day of the 2024/25 season, eventually finishing 13th in the Premier League table with 48 points. His extension comes after his contract expired at the end of June 2025, but both sides quickly agreed to continue their relationship for another two seasons.

Everton finished the 2024/25 Premier League season in 13th place.

WHY GUEYE’S EXTENSION MATTERS

Gueye’s consistency in midfield has been vital for Everton, as he has stood out as one of the best players for tackles and ball recoveries this season. Gueye, who turns 36 next year, has been an important player in reinstilling stability at the club.

Gueye, who first joined Everton in the summer of 2016, returned to the club in January after his brief spell at Lazio and has earned Moyes’ confidence to feature in all their league games this season.

His persistence and experience will now be valuable to Everton’s efforts to capture the final European spot as they prepare for a challenging end to the season.

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE NEW SEASON

With Gueye locked down until 2027, Everton can rely on his experience as they prepare for the upcoming Premier League season. The Blues will be expected to improve on this season’s disappointing 13th-place finish, when they finished only six points clear of the drop zone.

They will begin their 2025-26 Premier League campaign against Leeds United, who comes from playing the Championship last season. Strong opponents will be a resounding theme for Moyes’ side over the first three weeks of the season, but a decent string of results may set the tone as the team fights to reach safety and stay in the Premier League as early in the season as possible.
