Callum Wilson to Leave Newcastle United After Contract Runs Out

Callum Wilson is leaving Newcastle United as a free agent after not signing a new contract, closing an important part of the striker’s career.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Callum Wilson‘s contract at Newcastle United ended on June 30, 2025. The club was in talks with Wilson about a new deal, but no agreement was reached. Wilson is no longer on the club’s official squad list and is listed as a free transfer on the Premier League website. He spent the expiration day working as a pundit, marking the end of his time at St James’ Park. A farewell statement from Newcastle is expected soon.

WHY WILSON IS LEAVING

Wilson joined Newcastle from Bournemouth in 2020, but his role decreased last season. He started just two Premier League games and had limited minutes behind Alexander Isak, who became the main striker. Injuries also limited Wilson, and the new deal reportedly had incentives based on his appearances. With limited playing time ahead, Wilson’s exit allows him to find regular football elsewhere. Leeds United and Everton are among the clubs interested in signing him.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR NEWCASTLE AND WILSON?

Newcastle United finished the 2024/25 Premier League season in fifth place, earning a spot in next season’s European Competitions. Wilson leaves after scoring 46 goals in 128 appearances for the Magpies. Newcastle are expected to search for a new backup striker behind Isak. Wilson’s next move is uncertain, but as a free agent, he can move to any club. Newcastle’s first game of the 2025/26 season is against West Ham on August 16.

According to a previous report, Newcastle United ended 5th in the Premier League last season.

The Magpies are currently focused on building their squad for another European campaign.

A previous report confirmed that Newcastle are interested in signing new players, including a potential backup striker for Isak.
