Sporting CP Target Almeria’s Luis Javier Suárez as Top Replacement for Gyökeres

Sporting CP want Almeria striker Luis Javier Suárez to replace Viktor Gyökeres, who might leave.

SPORTING CP MOVE FOR SUÁREZ

Sporting CP see Luis Javier Suárez as their top choice to replace Gyökeres. They have talked to Almeria and Suárez’s agents since June. Suárez likes the idea, and with other clubs interested in Gyökeres, things are moving faster. Despite a €40 million release clause, Almeria, now relegated, is willing to sell Suárez for around €25 million. Sporting hopes to negotiate a lower price but are currently the only club making a serious offer.

A previous report confirmed that Sporting CP see Luis Javier Suárez as the best candidate to become the main striker for the 2025-26 season.

WHY SPORTING WANT SUÁREZ

Suárez, 27, had a great season in Spain’s second division, scoring 31 goals and providing eight assists in 41 games. Many European clubs are interested in him, but Sporting’s spot in the Champions League makes them appealing to the Colombian striker. Suárez has a contract with Almeria until 2029, but their financial and sporting troubles make them open to selling. Sporting want to act quickly to secure Suárez, as Gyökeres seems likely to leave.

Suárez’s impressive season is underscored by his 31 goals and eight assists for Almeria.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR SPORTING AND SUÁREZ?

Sporting were the Portuguese champions for the 2024/25 season and are now getting ready for their title defense and the Champions League. Their next official game is the Portuguese Supertaça against Benfica. If they secure Suárez, they will have an in-form striker for tough matches ahead. Almeria are ready for more player departures, as they were at the bottom of La Liga and face a challenging rebuild in Spain’s second division.

According to a previous report, UD Almeria is reshaping their squad aiming to return to La Liga.
