Newcastle United Agree £55m Deal to Sign Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest

Newcastle United have agreed with Nottingham Forest to sign Anthony Elanga for £55 million. This is a big move as the club gets ready for next season. Elanga will also sign a long-term contract, making him one of Newcastle’s most prominent signings in recent years.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Newcastle wanted a new right winger after Yankuba Minteh and Miguel Almiron left the team. The club made a better £55 million offer for Elanga after the first bids were rejected. Both teams agreed on the fee, and the player’s side accepted personal terms, allowing the Swedish international to join the club before the 2025/26 season.

Nottingham Forest wanted £60 million for Elanga, but they finally accepted Newcastle’s offer after weeks of negotiation.

WHY NEWCASTLE TARGETED ELANGA

Elanga, 23 years old, was one of Nottingham Forest’s top players last season. He had a big impact with goals and assists as the team finished seventh in the Premier League, qualifying for the UEFA Conference League. He played in 36 league matches, scoring eight goals and giving seven assists.

Newcastle finished fifth last season and qualified for the Champions League. They see Elanga’s speed and creativity as critical for their return to European competition. Manager Eddie Howe considers him the best choice to boost the right wing, even though Jacob Murphy stepped up last season but still needed reinforcement.

According to a previous report, Newcastle finished fifth in the Premier League last season.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR BOTH CLUBS?

Elanga will join Newcastle for pre-season preparations. Newcastle wants to stay in the top four, as they finished within touching distance of fourth-place Chelsea.

Nottingham Forest now needs to find a replacement for Elanga to improve on last season’s troubles. They are interested in PSV’s Johan Bakayoko as a possible replacement, but there is a lot of competition for his signature.

A recent report confirmed that Nottingham Forest have qualified for the UEFA Conference League.
